High School Fairs

High School fairs can be a good way to get an overview of a number of schools,especially in the early stages of your search.They are probably more valuable for 7th graders than 8th as the 8th graders already have an idea of the schools that they are interested in.

Admissions Process Timeline
7th Graders

8th Graders

Fall of 7th Grade

  • Visit the middle school counselor page and begin to familiarize yourself with the process and options.
  • Visit a high school fair (optional).
  • Attend an open house or two (optional).

November

  • Parents attend group meeting with Douglas to learn about the high school process.

April-May

  • Students and parents attend high school night to hear EB alums speak about their transition into different kinds of high schools (independent, public, parochial, French).
  • Attend individual meeting with Douglas to go over student records and prepare for the high school visits. In these meeting, we discuss possible high schools and try to expand the possibilities.

June

  • Take SSAT as prep (optional).

September of 8th Grade.

  • Call schools for brochures and applications.
  • Set appointments for visits/interviews early, as they fill up quickly.
  • Prepare for interviews.

October

  • Attend special high school night for guidance from admissions directors.
  • Begin school visits/interviews.
  • Admissions directors come to EB (during lunchtime) to answer questions about their schools.
  • Give all recommendation forms for teachers and counselor to Douglas.
  • Work on essay writing in English class.
  • Start application essays.
  • Register for standardized tests.SSAT and ISEE
  • Begin S.S.A.T/ISEE preparation class (optional).

November

  • Complete high school essays.
  • Complete applications.
  • Complete school visits/interviews.

December

  • Submit applications to schools.Take S.S.A.T. or ISEE
  • Relax and have a nice vacation.

January

  • Final deadline for all EBISC applications is mid-January.

March

  • Admission decision letters are mailed to applicants around the middle of the month.
  • *The admissions process is complete after wait list decisions have been made. The process is usually complete by the end of March.

April

  • Students and parents attend high school night to hear EB alums speak about their transition into different kinds of high schools (independent, public, parochial, French).
