All-School Picnic
Every year on a Sunday in October, the entire school community gathers in one of the East Bay parks for a massive potluck and gathering. After everyone has had a chance to eat their fill, it’s time for the games: the three-legged race, the water balloon toss, and the ever-popular tug-of-war, to name only a few. The picnic is a wonderful way for new families to meet new friends and for returning families to catch up with old friends after the summer.

Grandpersons’ Day
Every year, on the day before Thanksgiving, we open the school to grandparents and family friends. After a performance by the children, grandparents are welcomed into classrooms, where they are invited to meet the teachers and talk about their own school experiences.

World Celebrations
World Celebrations shows how many cultures blend at EB—at last count, there were over 40 nationalities represented among the student body—and how much we value each of them. Parents prepare a dish from their culture, and the result is an astonishing mix of foods from around the world. You can sample chicken tikka masala, plum pudding, wontons, quiche, chai, polenta, curry, gravlax, chicken yassa, raclette, green papaya salad, baklava, far breton, apple pie, and yes, jello salad. The combination of delicious food and a joyous community atmosphere make this a not-to-be-missed event.

Auction and Gala
The Auction is EB’s biggest fundraising event of the year. Local businesses and members of the EB community donate gift certificates, wine, artwork, and a wide variety of other items. The online auction is held in early March, and is followed by the Gala, which is a night of dinner, dancing, and enthusiastic bidding. The highlight of the Gala is the Live Auction, where guests bid on sumptuous dinners or stays in vacation homes. All of the money raised goes to benefit EB’s programs.

La Place du Marché and Raffle
La Place du Marché, held every year in late May, is an immensely popular community event. The school courtyard is transformed into a French marketplace for the day. After browsing the stands of jewelry, housewares, books, and other products, you can sit back and enjoy a meal and a glass of wine at the Marché Bistro while your children play traditional carnival games. The annual school Raffle is one of the highlights of the Marché; the grand prize is traditionally a trip for two to Paris. Raffle tickets are sold primarily by EB students and their families during the two months leading up to the Marché. As with the Auction, proceeds go towards EB’s programs.
